How to Kill Monsters

Creeper: sprint at them, attack, and back up. you'll gain extra knockback by sprinting at mobs.
Zombie: Hit it in the face with a sword.
Spider: Don't let it have higher ground, if it does hit it before it hits you.
Skeleton: Shoot it with a bow, it will help if youve got no armor.
Enderman: Hit it repeatedly with your sword, back up against the wall.
Wither skeleton: run like heck.
Blaze: Shoot it with a bow, and keep dodging.
Ghast: Same strategy as the blaze, but you can also deflect their fireballs.

from mightygi11 on 01/19/2016 09:22 PMFor Wither Skeletons, it would probably help to back up while swinging your sword at them. They approach you quite fast, but backing up instead of running toward them should ensure you don't get hit. If you can't back up, stay in place. If you don't feel confident, you can bring milk to cure Wither if you get hit.
TL;DR: Don't sprint into Wither Skeleton faces.

Ender dragon: Shoot it with a bow, hit with a sword, and keep it distracted.
